Pocket Money
Jan 20th, 2009 by Jesslyn
Papa will give Wien some pocket money every morning. He will ensure her small purse has at least 80 cents everyday. With 60 or 80 cents, she can get one small packet of either nugget, fish balls, fried noodle and others. I still will prepare her snack or food every morning such as cake, homemade muffin, nugget, fish balls, fried rice or noodle, bread etc. Or prepare a small packet of Milo drink. Told her she has to eat my packed food instead of going to canteen spend the money. However I did allow her to buy canteen food if she only brings bread on certain day. (She will get bore too if everyday eat bread, right?)
I had reminded her numerous times that she cannot buy any drinks from canteen. She can bring Vitagen or pack Milo from home but cannot buy from canteen. However yesterday she upset me coz she bought 1 packet of Chrysanthemum drink. She told us that she used RM1.00 (paper note) to pay for it. Now the question is where the paper note is came from? Papa never gives her before and he had checked her purse every morning too. Must be she taken from her piggy bank lar! Papa gave her a good lecture last night. Also she apology with me too. Let’s hope she wouldn’t do that again. Not that we want to control she buying food from canteen but certain food have to control especially drink. If she wants, she can request from home too.
Kids are tricky and smart, so parent better outsmart them before get cheated. LOL

You know? Last time my center, the students bring a lot of money to school. The parents can really give them like 10 bucks like that everyday! Really dunno what they buy with that much of money…I think enough pocket money for food is enough liao, especially for little children.
My girl bought vitagen for RM1 today. Told her these are things we can get from home and she shouldn’t spent like that. It will take a few more lessons for her to learn.
My neighbor’s girl who hasn’t got any pocket money, has been asking friends for money and she never return, simply because she never tell her parents about it. She told me she got some money from her friends today, bought glue from the book shop and still got balance. I asked if she return the balance to her friends, she said no. I asked if her mum knew about it, she also said no. She’s hiding the stuff she bought. I don’t know to tell her mum or not. Not to say I want to get back the RM1, but I feel that she mustn’t keep doing that.
I still haven’t thought Tim to buy things from the canteen. I have been packing different stuff for him and he likes to eat what I prepared.
The 60 sen I gave him is still in his wallet and he never take it out. I don’t think I want to start him on buying anything in school.
It take time to let them understand that the food from home is much healthier than canteen…
I cannot help much because I also need to learn from all of you…
My boys bring almost the same thing as your girl to school everyday.
Although, I did give them RM2 in their pocket, they never used it. I told them to use it only for emergency. Afterall, they have little time to eat a lot of things leh!
Only Rm0.80 for fried noodle? Here everything is at least Rm1 except for bread/cake.
I am kinda worried when it comes to my turn in another 2 years time. So worried that Keith will spend all this money on junk food. Really need to get some tips and advice from the experienced mummies
School nowadays are not allow to sell junk food. No worry. If they did sell, you can make a report to the school principal.
I had also scanned thru items sell in her school too, confirmed no junk food. Just that I don’t like she buy drinks from canteen.
wah, they banned junk food? that is great news! hmmm… my turn is another 5 years, so u can be my sifu in teaching la
ya, have to let them know the important of handling money, and the most importantly is let them know there is no easy money, papa and mama have to work hard and that’s why they need to appreciate the money.
Happy Chinese New Year to you and your family
