Our Squirrel
Dec 20th, 2006 by jesslyn
We have a squirrel (tupai) at our house, that’s was given by SIL#3’s MIL. Egghead ever blog about it during his trip to Tangkak. She caught a few in her durian farm during durian season, so my MIL asked her to give her one if any. Since then, this tupai has become my gals’ pet. They love to keep they unfinished food, such as bread, banana, biscuit etc and offered them to their beloved tupai.

Well, it has been raining for so many days, yesterday the tupai scream very loud. We thought he might asked for food, but no one go and peek at him! Cold weather, all of us having syok nap time (Hubby and I taking off day as I need to go for check up) . Late evening abt 5pm, MIL want to give him some food, only realised he didn’t move at all! Poor tupai, he must be died of cold weather! The gals keep asking why he didn’t move, how he die etc…
After half an hour, hubby went and have a look at tupai, he noticed he still has little bit of movement. So he start doing the rescue job. He brought it to car porch, start wrapping him with few layer of fabric and holding him too, just to give him some warm and offer bread to him. But the tupai didn’t take the bread, guess he must be too cold and no energy to eat. Since it’s still raining, so hubby not allow the 2 gals to go out, he locked the gate and only allow them to see from the gate. They are very excited see the way papa wrap the tupai, they said papa seem like wrapping and holding a baby!
After dinner, the tupai start making some movement, hubby confirmed he will not die! The most happiest persons are the 2 gals lar. They keep pestering us to allow them to offer food to him!
Before bedtime, MIL wrap the cage with a thick layer of fabric and placed him at car porch too, worry he might catch cold again. Hubby said now only know the consequences, wanna keep him but never take good care of him. In fact hubby said he want to release the tupai if he able to rescue him. I hope he just say say only, else the 2 gals will be very disappointed.

wei… better take good care of the tupai lah… next round my son will wanna play with it leh!
I agree with ur hubby to release the tupai… Poor thing… … Release ya.. Dun think tupai can survive loong if kept as home pet…
I also think release dunno if he can survive or not leh….
But ur MIL got leave space for air or not? Later wrap until he don’t get air… hehehe
Flood there too right? Everything ok for your house?
So kesian the tupai. Ya, if it gets well, do release it. I’m sure your gals will understand and will be happy to see their beloved pet roam freely. Just need to start brainwashing them now.
Also maybe the tupai is sick because it is not used to “human” food. I know my colleague’s dog will fall sick if it accidentally ate any of our food because is is accustomed only to dog food.
Make a tupai jacket for the tupai! hehehehehehhe
ur hubby life saver huh?!
there are many squirrels at my house too…dont like them at all. they eat all the good durians!
if we manage to catch them, we will fry them and eat. yummy…
Just wondering whether can give panadol to the squirrel or not? Last time when my parrot was sick, i saw my mum fed panadol to the parrot and it cured.
Yeah better let it go and find some friends of their own.
我不喜欢养宠物,因为要养就要好好的照顾它。看到动物关在小小的笼子里,没自由又孤独,蛮可怜的。
Aiyo, poor Tupai. I don’t think he’s happy being caged up and it’s not cared properly. Maybe just let it go free and find his own frens, I’m sure he’ll be happier.
hmm… it is safe to keep tupai as pet??? I also think the tupai should go back to it natural habitat..
ok, will try to release the tupai, but have to find a good reason for Wien first.
Egghead,
